The District Development Council (DDC) has stressed the need for completing the work on the small bridge across the Pannikkuzhy canal near Muthoor in Thiruvalla on the MC Road on a war footing.
Addressing the DDC meeting here on Saturday, former Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, said the old, narrow bridge at Pannikkuzhy had been causing many hardships to the commuters as well as to the motorists.
He said motorists had to wait in long queues to cross the bridge and even ambulances were found to have been trapped in the traffic bottleneck on this stretch of the MC Road, especially during peak hours.
The DDC has decided to write to the government for taking necessary steps to ensure speedy completion of the repair as well as the construction work of various roads and bridges in the district.
The meeting has also called upon the government to disburse the financial relief announced for the affected farmers in natural calamities.
The DDC, chaired by District Collector S. Harikishore, has called upon the KSTP to clarify before the next council meeting on the probable date of completion of the Pannikkuzhy Bridge near Muthoor on the MC Road.
