In two months, an interactive database on fish, frogs, and some other species will be available for the public, Sathyabhama Das Biju, Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at the University of Delhi, has said.
He was replying to a question on using documentation available with academia and using it for conservation of environment for the benefit of the people at Saastrajnarkoppam, an open session between scientists and students, here on Saturday.
Popularly known as the frogman of India, Prof. Biju said mass opinion was critical to address the conflict between conservation and development. As a step towards this, a portal of endangered and critically endangered species of Kerala would be prepared. A simple click would be able to reveal such species in a specific area on a map, he said. Only three of four animal groups would be covered initially. The portal would connect all the links to Google Maps.
This initiative would help take information to the public and push them to adopt nature conservation efforts, he said.
