The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert over the Arabian Sea.
A depression prevailing over east-central part of the sea is likely to develop into a deep depression by early Friday morning and a cyclonic storm by midday.
Peninsular India is not in the path of the cyclone, however. It is very likely to move east-northeastward till October 25 (Friday) evening, the IMD said. It would then re-curve and move nearly west-northwestward towards south Oman and adjoining Yemen coast, gradually intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the east-central Arabian Sea in view of the weather conditions. They can also expect squally weather along Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Lakshadweep coasts.
Isolated rainfall
Meanwhile, several districts in the State can expect isolated heavy rainfall on Friday, according to IMD.
Yellow alerts have been issued for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
