CPI(M) Polit Bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai on Thursday said the party-level inquiry into the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan was part of a bid to protect the party.
The report had concluded that the only person responsible for the murder was CPI(M) Kunnummakkara local committee member K.C. Ramachandran Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Ernakulam Press Club here, Mr. Pillai said the party-level investigation was conducted as desired by its cadres and supporters.
“The inquiry was conducted at all levels. Its focus was mainly on the involvement of any party leader in the brutal murder. We also investigated whether anyone acted against the party principles. The probe report was explained at various levels of the party. We are not in a position to divulge the whole details of the probe, including who conducted the probe,” he said.
Claiming that the investigation was an internal affair of the party, he said the CPI(M) had every right to protect details. “ The government had conducted the investigation and the court had pronounced its verdict,” he said.
Mr. Pillai rubbished allegations that the change in stance of Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan with regard to the Chandrasekharan murder case and the SNC-Lavalin case was because of certain assurances from the party to him, including top slots in the organisational hierarchy. “The CPI(M) is a democratic party and there will be different opinions among its leaders. Rivals are misinterpreting our democratic discourses,” he said. Mr. Pillai said the Congress would face a humiliating defeat in the State in the Lok Sabha polls.
