Tension prevailed at Thalassery after two houses belonging to CPI(M) and Sangh Parivar workers came under attack on Friday evening.

The police said the house of CPI(M) Thalassery area committee member Vazhayil Sasi, near Thiruvangad, was vandalised at around 6 p.m. by a gang that came on four motorcycles.

Crude bombs hurled

They hurled crude bombs and attacked the house. Household items and furniture were damaged in the attack. In an apparent retaliatory attack, the house of an RSS leader, Kolakkoottu Chandrasekharan, came under attack shortly after the first incident.

Thalassery and nearby areas had witnessed incidents of attack and bomb explosions during the BJP-supported hartal on Thursday.

Cases registered

The police have registered cases against nearly 70 BJP and CPI(M) workers in connection with the incidents.

A BJP office at Puthiyatheru here also came under attack in the early hours of Friday.

One injured

The office was set ablaze by miscreants. A person sleeping on the veranda of the building suffered burns. The fire was suspected to have been caused by petrol bombs hurled at the building, the police said. The injured man has been identified as Sureshan. His condition is stable.
