CPI district meet from Friday at Thiruvalla

The district meet of the Communist Party of India (CPI) will be held at Thiruvalla from February 6 to 9. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, CPI district unit secretary P. Prasad; assistant secretaries A.P. Jayan and M.V. Vidyadharan, and district secretariat member Manoj Charaelel said that the meet had got much political relevance as the 22nd party congress was scheduled to be held in Puducherry from March 26 to 31.

The party had taken an uncompromising stand for the protection of the environmentally sensitive Chembanmudy Hill.

The leaders said the party would continue its agitation against the controversial airport project at Aranmula, besides acting against it legally.

Venue

The venue of the district meet, Paliyekkara Church auditorium, has been named after the veteran party leader and trade unionist, M. Sukumara Pillai.

The party flag would be brought from the Smriti Mandapam of the late leader in Pathanamthitta. A procession will also be held from Ramanchira to the A.M. Aji Nagar (municipal stadium) prior to flag hoisting.

Mr. Prasad will hoist the party flag at M. Sukumara Pillai Nagar near MGM School in Thiruvalla on Friday.

CPI national executive member Kanam Rajendran will inaugurate a delegates’ session at 10 a.m. on Saturday. As many as 250 delegates representing seven mandalam committees in the district would attend the meet.

Senior party leaders K.E. Ismail, Binoy Viswam, K. Prakashbabu, C.N. Chandran, K.R. Chandramohanan, T. Purushothaman, and E. Chandrashekharan, MLA, will address the meet. The new district secretary and district council of the party would be elected on the second day of the delegates’ session on Sunday.
