The District and Sessions Court here on Wednesday allowed the police the custody of top Maoist leader Roopesh till Monday for questioning in connection with a case registered at Agali Police Station in Attappady during January last year.
The prosecution told the court that the police custody of Roopesh was required in the case in which the Maoist leader allegedly threatened a tribal youth at gunpoint. During the court proceedings, Roopesh told the judge that the police were plotting his custodial death and to portray it as an encounter death. Roopesh was brought from Coimbatore Central Jail on Tuesday by the district police for producing him in the court seeking custody.
As per the case, Roopesh along with 11 other alleged Maoists had threatened Dorairaj, a tribal youth from Chemmanur.
