Students present demonetisation, bridge scam at theatre competition

Contemporary issues that has been plaguing society have found resonance in the theatre performances of the UP category at Thrissur Revenue District Art Festival held at Sree Krishna Higher Secondary School, Guruvayur, on Wednesday.

Students presented issues such as demonetisation, discrimination against girl children and Palarivattam bridge scam on the stage. There were eight performances in the UP category.

‘Oridathoru Manikkutty Undayirunnootta,’ performed by Government Higher Secondary School, Erumappetty, won the first prize.

The drama, with Manikutty as the centre character, discussed the social discrimination faced by girls, from their birth.

It represented their protest against oppression and aspirations for freedom. Shifna Sherin Rasheed, a seventh standard student, who played the character of Manikkutty, won the best actor award. The script of the play was written by State Special Intelligence ASI Vinod.
