Extending solidarity with the flood victims, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday visited the relief camps at the Christian College and Engineering College at Chengannur town and the flood-hit settlement colony at Ezhikad in Pathanamthitta.
Mr. Gandhi was accompanied by K.C. Venugopal, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Anto Antony, MPs; Ramesh Chennithala, Leader of the Opposition; Oommen Chandy, former Chief Minister; P.J. Kurien, former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman; P.C. Vishnunath, former MLA, and M.M. Hassan, KPCC president.
Mr. Gandhi also interacted with the flood victims at a relief camp at Edanadu. He then proceeded to State’s second largest settlement colony at Ezhikad near Aranmula that has been badly hit in the recent deluge.
He visited Reghunathan of Chandicheril Kizhakkethil, a fisherman residing in block No-78 of the settlement colony, to congratulate the latter who had rescued many people trapped in their flooded homes, and the house of Kunjamma of Thengummodiyil at the colony.
Breaking the security cordon, Mr. Gandhi entered both the houses to have a first hand information on their difficulties. Talking to Mr. Regunathan, he said the Congress party stood firm with the people of Kerala.
