Colourful start to college decennial fete

The five-day decennial celebrations of the Sree Buddha College of Engineering at Pattoor, near Pandalam, got off to a colourful start on Monday.

R. Rajesh, MLA, inaugurated the celebrations as the chief guest, G. Karthikeyan, Speaker, failed to turn up.

K. Sasikumar, chairman of Sree Budha Education Society, presided over the function. Sobha Raju, Nooranad grama panchayat president; T.Vijayan, member; Ajit Raj, Alumni Association chairman; and K.K. Sivanandan, society chairman; spoke.

‘Budholsavom'

The ceremony began with a cultural festival ‘Budholsavom' later in the afternoon. K. Madhu, cine director, lit the ceremonial lamp.

As many as 500 students from the Sree Buddha College of Engineering at Pattoor, SBCE for Women at Elavumthitta, Sree Budha Central School at Pattoor and Sree Buddha Central School at Karunagappally, are taking part in the two-day cultural extravaganza, which will conclude on Tuesday.

Technical fete

Prof. Sasikumar said a national-level technical fest, ‘Astra-2012', and a science exhibition, ‘Bodhini' would be held as part of the anniversary fete on Wednesday.

J. Latha, Director of Technical Education, will inaugurate the technical fete and expo. Schoolchildren will be given an opportunity to visit the technical expo to be held on Wednesday and Thursday, he said.

Career guidance

The college will also organise a career guidance and personality development programme in association with The Hindu on Thursday.

Raju Narayana Swami, secretary, Youth Affairs, will inaugurate the programme. S.N. Kumar, former Joint Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, will deliver the keynote address.

The five-day decennial celebrations will come to a close with a cultural event, ‘Rahlaap', on Friday afternoon.
