Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of waging a false campaign that cases are being foisted on those invoking God in the State.
Responding to Mr. Modi’s speech here on Thursday, Mr. Vijayan said in an article on Friday that earlier the Prime Minister had made similar observations outside the State and that would have misled some people.
Now the refrain was made in the State too. No case has been registered for invoking God, but action has been taken against those inciting violence in the name of God.
Mr. Modi should present at least one case to prove his argument, Mr. Vijayan said.
The BJP-ruled States have protected such elements, but it would not be entertained in Kerala. The police acted with restraint in the face of provocations in Sabarimala where devotees were targeted by miscreants, he said.
Mr. Modi’s charge that religious rituals and pujas are not being permitted in the State is baseless. A Supreme Court verdict is the law of the land, which governments are bound to implement.
Those indirectly opposing the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala are challenging Constitution and the judiciary, he said.
