The city had much to be proud of when the results of the ISC and the ICSE examinations were declared on Tuesday.

Not only was the second topper in the ISC examinations Fiona Edwin from the city, the State merit list had two city students sharing the second position (99.25%) Meenakshi S. of Holy Angels ISC School and Shreya Smitha of Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School. Two students shared the third position (99%) Ankita Radhakrishnan of Christ Nagar HSS and Jerry John Thomas of St. Thomas Residential School.

State merit list

In the ICSE examinations, the State merit list had two students from St. Thomas Residential School sharing the second position (98.6%) Namrata Nandagopal and Riya Renu Thomas. Donel Chacko Baby of Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School was in the third position.

Meenakshi who had excellent results in Class 10 too — she was first in the State and third nationally — said she did even better than expected. Her teachers, she said, were the reason she continued in the school after Class 10. Currently preparing for the JEE Advanced examination, she said being regular with studies would go a long way in avoiding last-minute hassles.

With a scientist father and an engineer mother, a future in engineering was probably a given for Shreya who too is preparing for the JEE Advanced examination. Shreya said despite her serious preparation, her marks were unexpected. Her engineering preparations helped her with the school syllabus too.

Namrata Nandagopal of St. Thomas said she did not get her hopes up much for fear of being disappointed, but she was happy with her results. She said she had opted for Biology and Mathematics so as to study medicine. Though her parents are doctors, she said they had left the choice of course to her. She also wanted to take the Civil Services examination in future.

Her batchmate Riya hoped to take up Biology and Mathematics and her marks paved the way for choice of subjects. She too wants to pursue medicine. Her recipe for success was to study what she liked the most and going the previous year question papers too.
