The 85th anniversary of the reunion of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church will be held at Mar Ivanios Nagar (St Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church) at Thirumoolapuram in Thiruvalla from September 19 to 21.

Proclamation rally

In a statement issued here on Saturday, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Thiruvalla, Philipose Mar Stephanos, said that the three-day reunion meet would begin with a proclamation rally on September 19 afternoon.

Mar Stephanos said that consecration of the Mar Ivanios Smriti Mandapam, cultural meet, clergy meet, laity meet, children’s meet and youth convention will be held during the reunion anniversary fete.

Public meeting

The ceremonial pontifical high mass and a public meeting will be the other major attractions of the three-day meet, according to the Auxiliary Bishop.

Cardinal Mar Baselius Cleemis Catholicos will be the chief celebrant of the pontifical high mass.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla, Thomas Mar Coorilos, is the patron of the organising committee. The three-day meet will come to a close with a religious procession on September 21 afternoon.

Mar Stephanos said the church has also planned a series of sponsored health and social welfare programmes as part of the reunion anniversary celebrations.

Free dialysis for 3,000 poor patients, construction of 10 houses for the poor and the homeless, financial assistance for 85 open-heart surgeries, and marriage assistance for 10 girls, were the projects that have already been launched as part of the reunion anniversary, he said.
