Four-member team was led by Roopesh, say police

June 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KANNUR:

Maoist leader Roopesh was allegedly involved in the suspected Maoist attack on a stone crusher unit at Nidumpoyil here on January 2.

Some television channels telecast visuals of the attack by a four-member group, allegedly led by Roopesh.

The visuals were apparently leaked to the media by the police.

Roopesh, his wife, Shyna, and three others were arrested near Coimbatore in May. The channels, quoting police sources, said the visuals were clear evidence that Roopesh was part of the group which attacked the New Bharat Stone Crusher unit on the Koothuparamba-Mananthavady road.

The police team which probed the case had reportedly said that Roopesh was among the attackers.

The visuals taken from the hard disk of the computer attached to the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera at the crusher unit had been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Thiruvanthapuram for analysis.

Roopesh had been questioned by the police in connection with the attack after he was remanded in police custody by the District and Sessions Court at Thalassery on June 8.

He had reportedly told the police that he was part of team.
