Chalakaudy witnesses record turnout in Lok Sabha elections

Indicating a record voter turnout in this election, about 43.72% of the electorate in Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency exercised their franchise by 1 pm.

Long queues of voters were seen across the constituency, where the battle is mainly between Left front candidate and actor Innocent and United front's Benny Behanan.

The Sssembly segment-wise polling percentage at 1 pm is as follows: Kaipamangalam - 41.41%; Chalakudy - 44.98%; Kodungallur - 43.23%; Perumbavur - 45.61%; Angamaly - 39.37%; Aluva - 43.48%; and Kunnathuad - 47.45%.

The total turnout in the last general elections in 2014 in the constituency was 76.86%.

Voters at the Govt HSS, Chowara in Aluva, said that the voting process was slow and requested an additional booth. The officials, however, maintained that there was no delay and the polling continued without much hiccups.
