Chain-snatcher arrested

May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - THIRUVANTHAPURAM:

The Mannanthala police have on Friday recorded the arrest of Ajith Selastayil, 24, of Kattakode near Kattakada, on charges of snatching a two-sovereign gold chain from a nurse near Nalanchira on Thursday.

According to the police, the shadow police team had tracked Ajith, who was entirely in black with a black helmet as well, within a couple of hours of the incident at around 8.45 a.m.

However, it took some time to confirm that it was Ajith himself who committed the offence, since he had no prior records or known connections with any of the chai-snatching gangs that were active in the city.

The police claimed that most of the other chain-snatching gangs in the city had been nabbed.

They said that the number of chain-snatching incidents had come down in the city. — Special Correspondent
