A ban on colour dress during celebrations on the campuses is among the key proposals being mooted by the Kerala CBSE School Managements Association to check excessive celebrations in educational institutions.
The apex body of the CBSE schools in the State will soon place the recommendation before its partner institutions and try to evolve a common framework on holding celebrations.
“Students will be told to wear uniform during festival celebrations instead of colour dress. A regulation has to be stringently enforced to check excesses in the name of celebrations. We will seek the cooperation of parents in this awareness drive,” said T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, president of the association, on Thursday.
The move to regulate campus celebrations evoked a mixed response among senior teachers such as M.K. Sanoo and M. Leelavathi.
“It is better to monitor such celebrations on campuses rather than banning or restricting it. We need not curb the freedom enjoyed by them,” said Prof. Sanoo.
“These recent incidents [CET, IHRD] could be a reflection on the eroding teacher-student relationship. Such incidents would not have occurred if the teacher-student relationship was strong on our campuses,” he added.
Prof. Leelavathi, who had taught generations, spoke for imposing restrictions on excessive celebrations.
“Celebrations on the campuses these days have turned delinquent. It’s a show of luxury. Such excessive celebrations must be controlled,” she said.
Mr. Khan said movie-inspired dress codes would not be permitted in schools.
“New rules on celebrations will come into place soon,” he said.
