On a tip-off, sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Kochi unit raided a hotel room in the city where a senior officer of the Ministry of Rural Development, Shylendra Kumar, was staying.

Superintendent of Police, CBI, Krishna Kumar told The Hindu that Shylendra Kumar had arrived in Kollam for inspecting the quality of roads laid under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Mr. Krishna Kumar said that during the raid, Rs.1.65 lakh in unaccounted cash and other valuables were seized from the hotel room. He said Shylendra Kumar was not arrested considering his health condition. But the CBI registered a case against him and directed him to present himself at the CBI Kochi office on Thursday.
