The Central Bureau of Investigation, on a direction by the Kerala High Court, has registered an FIR to probe the killing of two Youth Congress leaders in Kasaragod earlier this year due to an alleged political rivalry.
Kripesh, 21, and Sarat Lal, 24, were murdered on February 17 at Periya village. The case was earlier instituted by the Bekal police, on a complaint from one K. Sreekumar, a resident of Kasaragod.
The complainant alleged that the two were killed by CPI(M) workers. A day later, the investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch.
The probe team filed a chargesheet on May 20 against the accused persons, including Peethambaran A. and 13 others. The case was committed to the principal sessions court in Kasaragod and 11 persons are currently in judicial custody. The remaining three are out on bail, according to the FIR.
The victims’ parents had approached the High Court seeking a reinvestigation of the case by the CBI.
