The police on Saturday registered a case against 100-odd CISF men for destroying property at Calicut International Airport at Karipur on Wednesday night. None was, however, arrested.
Several CISF men who were seen in the surveillance television footage as destroying properties by banging and kicking have reportedly kept themselves away from duty fearing arrest. CISF senior officers at Karipur airport, however, denied the reports of mass transfer of the security men. An identification parade will be conducted at the airport on Sunday. The police said a case would be charged against Sitaram Chaudhury, the CISF sub inspector involved in the clash with a group of Airport Authority of India (AAI) employees.
It was a bullet from the pistol of Mr. Chaudhury that killed CISF constable S.S. Yadav during a scuffle.
Mr. Chaudhury is under treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.
The nine AAI fire staff arrested in connection with the killing of the CISF jawan and the violent incidents were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate at Manjeri. The magistrate remanded them in judicial custody for two weeks.
They were S. Jagannathan Nair, 59; K. Reneesh, 41; N.R. Ajit Kumar, 41; K. Joseph Shine, 42; K.P. Bridg, 40; M. Joshy, 38; A.B. Aneesh, 38; Madhu Mohan, 51; and P.K. Sreedharan.
They were charged for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC Section 304.
Kozhikode District Collector N. Prasanth and Tirur Revenue Divisional Officer Adeela Abdulla examined the surveillance television footage showing the killing and destruction at the airport.
