Two wild gaurs were found dead in the Champakad forest area of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday evening.

Beat forest officers found the carcasses. It was confirmed that the deaths occurred due to a fight between the animals, said a forest officer.

The horns of one of the animals were found pierced into the neck of the second animal and the bones of the other were found broken.

A portion of the carcass was found eaten by a leopard, said the officer, adding that the carcasses were left in the forest. The authorities had set up camera traps to capture the image of the carnivore, which is expected to come to feed on the remaining carcass.
