Bus shelters neglected

January 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST

There are two bus shelters right in front of the Secretariat to give some protection from rain and shine to the waiting commuters. One neither has any roof nor the horizontal bars meant for passengers to sit. In the other one, only one of the two support bars remains, that too hanging loose. It is a shame that the authorities neglect the bus shelters in such a prime location in this manner.

Check waste dumping

It was a wise decision to employ squads to stop and punish people who dump garbage in public places. But the practice continues on less frequented by-lanes. The squads must be vigilant and their numbers must be increased. Violators must be fined heavily. Many areas close to the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and the Varahamurthi temple are buried in garbage. Most of the garbage is deposited in thin plastic bags. There should be a crackdown on shops selling such bags.

A massive garbage removal drive should be organised along the road leading to Kovalam.

Ration cards

A little farsightedness on the part of the authorities would go a long way in making the new ration cards useable in many forums. In addition to making all entries in Malayalam, provision for entries in English would make it an acceptable identity document across India.
