The police on Saturday arrested a youth for trying to decamp with a suitcase carrying Rs.4 lakh in cash of a businessman by spraying chilli powder on his face at Panathur some 45 km from Kanhangad on Wednesday.

Nithya, 28, resident of Somaarpet, near Karnataka’s Madikkeri town, was arrested by the Rajapuram police from his residence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday as the youth waylaid the car of Cyriac, who runs a bar outlet at Chemberi on the Karnataka-Kerala border.

Former employee

Nithya, who was a former employee of the liquor-vending outlet, came close to Mr. Cyriac and sprayed the chilli powder in a bid to rob the suitcase.

Sensing danger, the businessman despite having to bear the brunt of chilli powder on his face, drove the car all alone and informed a nearby police aid post.

The police alerted the Rajapuram police culminating in the arrest of the youth.
