Bride, groom should declare assets, says women’s panel member

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

State Women’s Commission member Noorbina Rashid has demanded that the government bring about a legislation making it mandatory for the bride and groom to declare their assets at the time of marriage.

“There remains little evidence of dowry in most dowry cases. Although we deal with lots of dowry-related cases in adalats, effective intervention becomes difficult owing to lack of evidence,” Ms. Rashid said after an adalat here on Monday.

As many as 49 cases were settled in the adalat held at the District Panchayat Hall. Three complaints were referred to the full bench of the commission. As many as 21 cases were deferred.
