The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked the State government to conduct a social audit on relief and rehabilitation of those affected in the recent floods.

BJP State vice president K.P. Sreesan said here on Monday that a social audit was necessary to assess the utilisation of funds received as flood relief.

Mr. Sreesan was addressing a public meeting here after inaugurating a District Collectorate march demanding steps to resolve the crisis faced by the farmers, especially areca nut growers who face fall in production on account of the crop disease Mahali. It also sought steps to end alleged discrimination in disbursing flood-relief assistance. The protesters sought a judicial probe into the alleged laxity on the part of the State in reaching assistance to the flood-hit. “Even the primary assistance of ₹10,000 has not yet reached many flood-hit families,” he alleged. The meeting held near the Collectorate premises was addressed, among others, by party district president K. Sreekanth and other senior party leaders.
