BJP seeks CBI probe into killing of RSS worker

The Bharatiya Janata Party Kerala unit has demanded a CBI investigation into the killing of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist in Kannur.

The murder threatens a return to the cycle of violence between activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Sangh Parivar in the volatile district.

Alleging that national leaders of the CPI(M) were involved in the conspiracy behind the murder of the RSS district functionary Elanthodath Manoj (42) near Thalassery on Monday, the BJP on Wednesday sought to hit back politically by holding a public function to receive workers of rival parties to its fold.

With the slain RSS functionary being one of the accused in the attack on CPI(M) district secretary P. Jayarajan on Onam day in 1999, the latest killing is seen as a retaliation or “revenge killing.” Mr. Jayarajan’s son posted a jubilant remark on his Facebook page. The post has been removed.
