BJP alleges violation of code of conduct by CM

October 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - KALPETTA:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president V. Muraleedharan has said that the assurance given by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to Thamarassery Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil regarding the rectification of anomalies in the report submitted by the State to the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment on the Western Ghats conservation was a violation of the model code of conduct.

At a ‘Meet the Leader’ programme of the Wayanad Press Club here on Wednesday, Mr. Muraleedharan said that Mr. Oommen Chandy had met Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil, who is also the patron of the Paschimaghatta Janasamrakshana Samithy (Western Ghats People's Protection Committee), along with delegates of the organisation at Kozhikode Bishop house during an election campaign on Tuesday. Mr. Oommen Chandy had assured them during the visit that anomalies in the report would be rectified, Mr. Muraleedharan added.

Such an assurance during an election campaign was a violation of the model code of conduct set by the Election Commission, he said.

The BJP would take the issue seriously and a complaint would be filed with the Election Commission.

Replying to a question at the Press Club regarding the equidistance policy adopted by the NSS in the forthcoming local bodies poll, Mr. Muraleedharan said that BJP was able to contest in the election without the support of any organisation.
