Bid to foment communal trouble near Uduma

June 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KASARAGOD:

Even as the police were making efforts to restore law and order in the wake of group clashes at Mangad, near Uduma, a fresh bid was made on Saturday to foment communal trouble at Aramanganam in the trouble-torn locality.

The police were trying to beef up security in the area by requisitioning two platoons of personnel from Kannur and Kozhikode districts.

The additional forces were expected to reach here late on Saturday night, Kanhangad DySP K. Harischandra Naik said.

The attempt to disturb communal amity comes close on the heels of the arrest of a person involved in a series of crimes recently.

Peace meeting

The incident upset the initiative of the district administration to convene an all-party peace meeting at Mangad, following a similar meeting held at the Collectorate on Friday.

Local MLA K. Kunhiraman called upon the authorities to take firm action against those behind the incidents.

Collector P.S Muhammed Sagir and Superintendent of Police A. Srinivas are monitoring the situation.
