As part of bringing awareness on financial literacy and various loan schemes, to assess the issues faced by their customers, the banks in the district have decided to open counselling centres in Block Panchayats.
A decision to this effect was taken at the district level bank review meeting held here at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.
‘Financial Literacy Credit Counselling centres’ in each six block panchayts would be set up shortly, District Collector, V. N. Jithendran, who is also district level Banking Advisory Committee Chairman, said while presiding over the meeting.
A counselling centre has already been set up by the Syndicate bank in Kasaragod Block.
Other Counselling centres planned to be set up in other block panchayats are Neeleshwaram (Federal Bank), Kanhangad (State Bank of Travancore), Manjeshwaram (North Malabar Gramin Bank, Karadukka (Corporation Bank), Parappa (Indian Overseas Bank), official sources here said on Wednesday.
The centres would guide those who find it hard to repay their dues. It would also educate the customers about the benefits accompanying different kinds of loans and other relevant awareness drive among their customers.
