Archbishop of Cantebury docks at Kuttanad

Offers help from the Church to tackle the effects of climate change

Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, who is on his first official visit to India, on Sunday interacted with public and farmers at Kavalam here.

Speaking at St. Mark’s CSI Church, Kavalam, the Archbishop raised the issue of climate change and the need to tackle the problem. He said the church would continue to intervene to mitigate the effects of climate change.

On Kuttanad

A live demonstration on the life of people and agriculture in Kuttanad was organised in connection with his visit. He also took time to examine traditional farming equipment used by farmers in Kuttanad, which were on display at the venue.

CSI Moderator Bishop Thomas K. Oommen and others accompanied him.

Earlier on his arrival at CSI boat jetty at Kavalam, the Archbishop was accorded a grand reception accompanied by snakeboats and smaller boats.

After the programme, Archbishop returned to Kumarakom. On Monday, he will attend various programmes in Kottayam.
