The dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the High Range Protection Council evoked only a partial response in the district on Friday. The hartal, seeking withdrawal of the State government’s affidavit stating that the land for which title deeds had been issued under the Land Assignment special rules of 1993 was forestland, did not evoke full response from the people despite it being supported by the Opposition Left Democratic Front. Although shops remained closed in some urban pockets of the district, vehicles plied almost normally and life remained near normal in the interior parts of the district.
