Aadu Antony nabbed from Palakkad

One of the biggest man hunts launched by the Kerala Police has finally met with success. The notorious “techie thief” Antony Varghese alias Aadu Antony wanted in connecting with killing civil police officer Maniyan Pillai attached to the Paripally police station in the district at about 1 a.m. on June 26, 2012 was nabbed by the Palakkad police late in the night on Monday from Chittoor.

A team of the Kollam police will be going to Palakkad to take custody of Antony and he is expected to be brought here by evening. Soon after killing Pillai, Antony absconded. Pillai was on night patrol duty along with Assistant Sub Inspector K. Joy at the time of the incident.

Mr. Joy was also stabbed by Antony. While patrolling in a jeep they noticed a van parked by the roadside with a man at the wheel. Mr. Joy questioned the man and when his replies aroused suspicion the officers inspected the van to find a bag of tools and a pair of gloves. Mr. Joy then took the man into custody.

As Antony walked to the jeep he whipped out a knife and stabbed Pillai in the chest. He then stabbed Mr. Joy’s abdomen with the same knife and fled from the scene in his van. A critically injured Mr. Joy grabbed his wireless set and sent out a message.

A group of policemen who reached the scene rushed both to a hospital, but Pillai could not be saved. In the interim another group of policemen chased Antony till Ayiroor near Varkala from where he escaped after abandoning the van.

Pillai was on night patrol duty along with Assistant Sub Inspector K. Joy at the time of the incident.

A forged identity card and other materials found in the van subjected to scientific investigations enabled the police to conclude that the killer was Antony.
