Wind, rain wreak havoc in Ayroor, Ranni

Heavy wind and summer rains reportedly wreaked havoc in Ayroor, Ranni and surrounding areas on Monday afternoon.

According to reports received here by 7.45 p.m., a number of houses were damaged when trees uprooted in the wind fell on them.

Power supply has been disrupted in many parts of Ranni taluk owing to uprooting of electric posts and snapping of power transmission lines.

Vehicular traffic too was disrupted for a few hours on all major roads in the affected areas.

A giant tree fell across the Punalur-Muvattupuzha State Highway at Uthimoodu near Ranni, blocking vehicular traffic on the road for about an hour.

Large-scale crop destruction has also been reported from the affected areas. However, no human casualty has been reported.

A report from Ranni said as many as five houses were damaged in Paruva near Vechoochira.

Reports received from Pandalam too stated large-scale crop destruction.
