A nature study trek, organised by the Wayanad district administration and a coordination committee of environmental organisations in Kozhikode and Wayanad, will be held on Wayanad Ghat Road on June 12.

The programme is aimed at promoting environmental awareness among children. A meeting of the environmental organisations in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, convened by district collector T. Bhaskaran on Monday, decided to make the event a great success by enrolling maximum number of students from different schools in the district.

Transportation facility for the return journey of the participants would be provided by the district administration.

Besides school children, teachers, nature lovers and environmental activists from the two districts can participate.

The route

The trekking will start at Lakkidi near the Wayanad gate at 9.30 a.m. and it will conclude after a 12-kilometre trekking on the ghat road at Adivaram in Kozhikode district at 3.30 p.m.

The participants will get a chance to travel around the Ghat road from Lakkidi and explore the biodiversity of Wayanad. They can take a closer look at rain clouds and the rainforests. It would be an exquisite experience for the participants to trek through the thick fog and chill characteristic of monsoon in Wayanad.

During their trek, the children would sow seeds of different species of flower plants.

Certificates would be issued in the concluding ceremony. The participants should bring their own food in plantain leaves and should avoid plastic carry bags, according to the release.
