Security lapse exposed

June 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:55 pm IST - Kollam:

The explosion at the civil station complex has exposed a serious security lapse there. None of the CC TV cameras are functioning. The cameras were installed in the complex five years ago following an alleged Dalit Human Rights movement bomb attack on a court.

But soon after the Puttingal temple fireworks explosion when the Crime Branch CID team probing the case tried to get some footages from these cameras in connection with the investigation, it was noticed that none of the cameras were working.

Even after the lapse of two months, no steps were taken to make the cameras operative. The police said that if the cameras were functioning, it could have helped the investigation better. The situation also gives rise to doubts whether the culprits behind the planting of the bomb were aware that the cameras were dud.
