The Public Works Department has redressed most of the1500 complaints about works including conditions of roads received through its toll-free telephone number 1800-425-7771 since last month.
The system, introduced on November 23 last year, is being computerised fully for better monitoring of the complaints and online registration of complaints. Higher officials will now monitor roads, region and districts that give rise to most complaints, number of redressed complaints, reasons for failure to address the complaints and efficiency of the officials on a monthly basis through the system.
Public Works Minister P. J. Joseph said in an official release here on Wednesday that his office and offices of the Department had been networked for monitoring purposes. Officials would be graded to assess their efficiency. Complaints could be filed through the toll free number from anywhere in the State during working hours and the official concerned would get back to the complainant within 48 hours.
Officials would be informed of the complaints received at the public information cell of the Department in Thiruvananthapuram through email. They could then log in to the Web site of the Department and get the details of the complaint and take action to redress them. Arrangements would soon be made for the public to register complaints through the Web site and follow them up using Internet services.
