Kerala government on Thursday ordered a vigilance probe into the charges of amassing disproportionate wealth by P.V. Sreenijan, son-in-law of former Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan.

According to official sources, the order was issued by Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan based on recommendation to conduct such a probe against Mr. Sreenijan by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan.

Chief Minister had recommended for a probe based on a petition received by him last week.

A former vice president of the state Youth Congress who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly polls from Njarakkal segment in Erakulam district, Mr. Sreenijan had resigned the primary membership of the Youth Congress last week after coming under the cloud of allegations.
