Kanam for law to control managements

February 10, 2017 11:07 pm | Updated 11:07 pm IST - KOLLAM:

State secretary of the Communist Party of India Kanam Rajendran on Friday said the Left Democratic Front government should enact a law to control self-financing college managements.

“Such managements should not be under the impression that they have a free hand to loot and harass students under the guise of providing education,” he said. Mr. Rajendran was inaugurating the 20th State conference of the All Kerala State Teachers Union here on Friday.

The situation in the self-financing education sector warranted such a law and the mainstream political parties should join hands to enact a law, he said.

There should be control over the managements, otherwise it would lead to unrest in the education sector. In order to make profits, students were being harassed. Many questions were being asked about the quality of education and the qualifications of teachers in these colleges, he said.

Mr. Rajendran said the previous United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre led by the Congress adopted policies to commercialise the education sector and the present National Democratic Alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party was implementing policies to saffronise the sector.

The Sangh Parivar organisations were being given a free hand to take forward this agenda, he said.
