KSU demands Baby's resignation

The Kerala Students Union (KSU) has demanded the resignation of Education Minister M.A. Baby in the wake of the Kerala High Court declaring the entrance test conducted by the Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association as void.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, KSU president Shafi Parambil alleged that the nexus between Mr. Baby and the association was responsible for the present crisis. “The Minister has aligned with the influential (college) managements and has been misleading the public. His lack of foresight in matters related to the education sector is also responsible for this predicament. Mr. Baby is unfit to continue as Minister. The agitations will continue until he resigns from the post,” he said.

Mr. Parambil alleged lack of clarity in the stand taken by the Students Federation of India (SFI). “The SFI has termed the court ruling as mysterious. However, it remains to be seen whether they will stand by the students or the Minister,” he said.

Earlier, protesting KSU activists were taken into custody by the police after they tried to obstruct the Minister, who was on his way to inaugurate the IT Sangamam 2010 at the Baker Memorial School. Mr. Parambil termed the police action as unnecessary and demanded the release of the arrested activists.
