Wide reading is essential for an individual's holistic growth, Roshy Augustine, MLA, has said.
Inaugurating the district-level Reading Week observance at the Tribal High School here on Saturday, he said that for information gathering there are a lot of modern techniques but for gaining knowledge, reading is essential. It is proven that while reading one engages more attention on the subject than the media.
The reading habit should be developed among children as only wide reading empowers one to compete in a highly competitive world, he said.
The Information and Public Relations Department, the district administration, the Education Department and the Library Council jointly organised the programme.
