Muslims in the district on Monday celebrated Id-ul-Fitr with devotion and fervour to mark the end of the month-long fasting by offering prayers in mosques specially arranged Idgahs.

Faithfuls thronged in the Idgahs and mosques to offer morning Id namaz and exchaged greetings as part of celebrating the festival.

Wearing new clothes, they went to the Idgahs to attend the prayers led by clerics. Special culinary delicacies were prepared in Muslim households to celebrate the feast. They also paid 'fitr-zakat' (alms) on the occasion. The festivities also included visits to relatives and friends in the afternoon.

The Idgahs were arranged at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, Town High School ground, Arakkal Palace ground, mini stadium at Marakkarkandy, Nithyananda School ground at Puthiyatheru, Aaron U.P. School ground at Pappinissery, Muzhappilangad Beach, Juma Masjid at Chirakkalkulam and Juma Masjid at Thazhe Chovva, among others.

The annual Ishq-e-Rasool gathering was held at the Town Square here in the evening under the auspices of the Imam Booswiri Foundation. The programme included talks on Prophet Muhammad and prayer sessions.
