The five-day long blockade of selected Central government offices in the District began with the blockade of Palakkad Head Post Office and the adjacent Telecom Centre of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Monday.

The blockade organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) against price rise was inaugurated in front of the Head Post Office by party district secretary P. Unni here on Monday.

The meeting was addressed by K.V. Ramakrishnan, President, Palakkad District Co-operative Bank, T.N. Khandamuthan, standing committee Chairman of District Panchayat among others.

The blockade has resulted in the closing down of both the Head Post office and the Palakkad Telecome Centre.

The CPI(M) leaders said that this will continue for five days.

They said that in five other centres of the district such blockades of selected Central government offices are being held.

But the blockade has put large number of people in dire straits because many important documents including examination hall tickets could not be collected from the Head Post office and the Speed Post Centre.

The closing down of the Telecom Centre for five-days continuously will also affect a large number of consumers.

Meanwhile the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) authorities pointed out that there is no justification in blocking the functioning of its offices in the Telecom Centre because it is not a department of the Central Government but only a public sector company.

They are learned to be moving court against the forceful closure of their office by the CPI(M).
