Dalit groups demand CBI probe

June 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 12:56 pm IST - KANNUR:

Alleging that cases of atrocities against Dalits in the State are often improperly investigated, Dalit organisations have demanded that the case of murder of a Dalit woman at Perumbavoor be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a scientific probe.

Dalit activists, under the banner of the Dalit-Adivasi Civic Rights Committee, would stage a State-level satyagraha on July 13 to raise the demand for a CBI probe into the murder and mobilise public opinion against the denial of rights to a Dalit family at Kuttimakkool in Thalassery, convener M. Geethanandan said at a press conference here on Saturday.

As a precursor to the State-level protest, Dalit activists would stage a protest here from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 3. The committee alleged that the Perumbavoor murder case probe had been subverted by the State police.
