Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (KPCTA) is to launch an indefinite agitation, protesting against the delay on the part of the Government in implementing the revised pay scale of University Grants Commission (UGC) in the State.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, KPCTA State president, Khader Mangad and secretary, M.C. Dileepkumar, said the association decided to observe a token strike on January 7.

The association has already staged two fasts before the secretariat, besides a dharna before the offices of the Deputy Director of Collegiate Education, to press its demands.

The indifferent attitude of the Government in redressing the grievances of college teachers was what led to their decision to go on agitation, they said.

They said the State should implement the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Human Resources in totality and get 80 per cent Central assistance towards the additional burden from January 1, 2006 to March 31, 2010.

KPCTA leaders said there was no link between the pay scales of the State government employees and that of the college teachers, which were fixed according to the UGC Pay Review Committee on the pattern of the

Central Pay Commission.
