Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said here on Saturday that Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy was morally bound to clarify to the people the revelations made by the former Civil Supplies Minister T.H. Musthapha on the palmolein import graft case before the court.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Isaac said Mr. Chandy was undoubtedly an accomplice of Mr. Musthapha if he, as the then Finance Minister, had signed the file being fully aware of the facts. “No file or paper can escape scrutiny in the Finance Ministry and the Minister should sign a file or paper only after examining it threadbare. If Mr. Chandy had, indeed, signed the file after necessary procedures, he was an accomplice of Mr. Musthapha in the case, Dr. Isaac said.
He said the people had the right to know Mr. Chandy's position on the revelations. Dr. Isaac said all the follies of the UDF regime were being exposed one by one. Except the Idamalayar case, the rest, including the ice-cream parlour sex scandal case, were raked up either by UDF constituents themselves or through observations of a court.
