CCCI demands uniform air fare

July 24, 2010 06:09 pm | Updated 06:13 pm IST - KOZHIKODE:

The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry opposes the practice of airliners hiking air fares when the rush of passengers goes up. “This is unfair since operational costs have no bearing on seasons; logically there is no justification for fluctuation in air fare, there should be stability and uniformity in air fares,” the representatives of CCCI said in an appeal to the airliners.

CCCI, Kozhikode chapter of World Malayali Council, Federation of North Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Calicut International Airport Development Society have decided to make a joint effort to convince airlines to introduce a stable and uniform air fare in the Gulf sector. The appeal has already been submitted to Air India, and Air India Express in Delhi. A delegation consisting of representative of these organisations would submit a similar representation to authorities of Qatar Airlines and Emirates Airlines.

Mr M.Sreeram, president of CCCI, Mr M Mussamil, E Chakunni and KS Nair, representing the other organisations also demanded for an urgent need to introduce more budget flights in the Gulf sector from the Calicut international airport in view of the rise in volume of passenger traffic, since the airport is used by a large number of common people who could not afford to bear high air fares.

The airlines are being urged to provide comfortable boarding and lodging when flights are delayed or cancelled. “We would also appeal to foreign airlines to have on board doctors to give help in case of medical emergency and a couple of air hostesses who spoke Malayalam.
