Punnala Sreekumar, general secretary of the Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha (KPMS) (who was ousted by the rival faction from the organisation last week) has alleged that the present controversies are the result of a “covert” attempt to take over the organisation by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.
Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Sreekumar alleged that there were attempts to disrupt the ongoing district conferences with the help of the police and also destroy the organisational strength of the KPMS by appointing receivers. According to him, the meetings in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram were disrupted by the police.
He alleged that certain interested quarters were trying to create confusion in the minds of the members through media reports. Steps were being taken to initiate legal action against them.
He said the move on the part of the rebels to remove him from the post of the general convener of Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe Samyuktha Samithy had received a beating, with leaders like C.K. Janu and M. Geethanandan making it clear that reports about such a move were baseless.
Mr. Sreekumar said the district- and State-level conferences would be completed as scheduled. So far, eight district conferences have been
completed. The State conference will be held in Thiruvananthapuram. He said three zonal meetings had been scheduled as part of strengthening the organisation. The South Zone conference will be held in Kollam on May 16. The Central Zone meeting has been scheduled in Kottayam on May 17 and the North Zone conference in Thrissur on May 18.
