District Collector A. Shainamol has said there are 5,701 candidates in the fray in the district for the November 2 local body elections. To the 68 grama panchayats, 4,414 are in the fray, to the 11 block panchayats 516, to the district panchayat 104, to the four municipalities 416 and to the Kollam city Corporation 251.
There are 20,23,749 voters in the district, 10,66,135 of them women. Talking to the media on Friday, Ms. Shainamol said all arrangements had been made in the district to ensure free and fair polls to the local bodies on November 2. She said distribution of poll equipment at all the 16 distribution centres will begin at 10 a.m. on November 1. There will be 2,737 polling booths. The Collector said that a mobile app, election15kollam, would provide details about the election in the district.
