: The 50,000th copy of ‘Aaraachaar,’ written by K.R. Meera, which won the Vayalar Award, has been auctioned for Rs.55,000, according to the publishers DC Books. Basheer Shamnad, an NRI and a cultural activist from Abu Dhabi, won the bid, they said in a press note.

The special edition has its cover page exclusively designed by Riyas Komu, artist and director of programmes of the Kochi-Muziris biennale. Printed in parchment paper, the copy has its start and end handwritten by the author herself. The autographed leather bound edition will feature paintings done by Bhagyanath for the novel, the press note said.

Popular film actor Madhu will present the book. K Ajitha will receive the volume on behalf of Mr. Shamnad at a function scheduled to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on May 23. The bid amount of Rs. 55,000 will be handed over to poet Sugathakumari for the organisation, Abhaya, the press note said. — Special Correspondent
