4.3 lakh saplings to be distributed

The Social Forestry wing of the Forest Department will distribute 4.3 lakh saplings in the district to mark this year’s World Environment Day in Alappuzha district.

Officials said that saplings of 15 species had been readied for distribution in six nurseries at Varanad, Kanichukulangara, Punnapra, Ulunthy, Pathiyoor and Vazhuvadi.

The main targeted beneficiaries of the initiative are students from various educational institutions. Saplings will also be distributed through local self government institutions, other government departments, youth organisations, clubs and so on.The World Environment Daytakes place on June 5 every year.
